Stress Level Zero has made a big splash on the Quest platform with their physics-driven sandbox game, BONELAB (2022). However, the beloved BONEWORKS (2019) is yet to grace Meta’s latest standalone hardware, a situation that’s about to change soon.
For those who haven’t experienced it on a PC VR headset, Boneworks delivers an immersive narrative VR action-adventure. It’s packed with cutting-edge experimental physics mechanics, requiring players to physically maneuver through environments, engage in combat that demands an understanding of physics, and solve puzzles in creative ways.
Brandon Laatsch, co-founder of Stress Level Zero, recently shared an update through a post on X, detailing some of the studio’s objectives through 2025. The team is not only rolling out updates for their Marrow Engine—a physics framework they’ve meticulously crafted for the Unity engine—but is also gearing up to introduce Boneworks to the Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
Take a look at Boneworks in action on the Quest 3 by checking out the link below:
In the X post, Laatsch outlined plans to roll out Patches 7, 8, and 9 for Bonelab, running on Marrow versions 2, 2.1, and 2.2, alongside Boneworks for Quest 3. They’re also diving into early preparations for their next project. By integrating Marrow, they aim to achieve compatibility, though Boneworks remains their most challenging endeavor. Here’s wishing the best for SLZ!
Interestingly, Laatsch revealed that the releases for both Marrow’s 2.0 update and Boneworks on the Quest 3 are occurring simultaneously, alongside setting the stage “for the next game.”
There’s a fun twist for Quest users—thanks to the community! A free mod named ‘Labworks’ allows players on Quest 2 and higher to experience Boneworks, albeit it’s a community-made adaptation.
Laatsch also mentioned that the studio has no intentions of shutting down Labworks, which indie developer ‘volx64’ took two years to adapt. He argues that the enhancements Marrow Engine could bring to Boneworks far outweigh those of a simple port.
There’s still no official release date, but we’re keenly watching Laatsch’s X feed and the studio’s YouTube updates. Stay tuned!
