Nintendo enthusiasts, get ready for some exciting news: this week, we’re finally going to see the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, putting an end to all the swirling rumors and speculation.
This juicy tidbit comes from none other than Nate, a well-respected insider in the gaming world, during his latest Nate the Hate Podcast episode. He disclosed, “I can share with you, right now, that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week. I have been told that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16.”
Nate went on, “This is just a few days away from when this episode airs. I’ve got some details about what’s going to be in the reveal, though I find them a bit lacking, maybe they’ll make more sense after the announcement.”
He explains that the reveal will almost entirely center on the console itself. “Don’t expect much, if anything, about games. There might be a glimpse of a game running on a screen, or perhaps a TV screen, but software won’t be the main focus. So, if games aren’t prominently featured, don’t be too surprised.”
Nate continued by likening the upcoming reveal to the one in October 2016, which, unlike this, spotlit games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Skyrim, NBA 2K18, and Splatoon 2, albeit without naming or officially announcing them right away.
“I doubt it’ll reach that level,” he noted. “I think we’ll get ‘Here’s the system,’ ‘Here’s some functionality,’ and a gander at the Joy-Con, the new logo, maybe even the packaging.”
From what Nate’s heard, Nintendo plans to hold a software showcase for Nintendo Switch 2 games towards the end of February or early March, depending on how things pan out. This is where we’d likely see new Nintendo titles and third-party games. He mused, “It’s tough to imagine Nintendo showing off new hardware without a game making an appearance on screen in some way.”
While the internet buzzes with more leaks and rumors, what we know for sure is that Nintendo has committed to unveiling its Switch successor before March 2025. This new hardware is confirmed to be backward-compatible with the current Switch.
So, mark your calendars! The Nintendo Switch 2 will debut before March 31, 2025, with plans to launch globally sometime in 2025.
