Earlier today, FuturLab, the team behind PowerWash Simulator, announced they will no longer support the VR version on Quest. Kirsty Rigden, the CEO, explained that the decision boiled down to financial and job security concerns for the team. Although the studio is passionate about VR, Rigden acknowledged that the VR segment wasn’t generating enough revenue to sustain itself, stating, “We have a dedicated VR team working on a platform that costs more than it brings in.”
Rigden wants fans to know that this isn’t a permanent goodbye to VR, as future support hasn’t been completely ruled out. However, the VR team’s been reassigned to other projects to ensure job security. Despite the disappointment this news might bring, Rigden emphasized that the choice prioritized her team’s stability, suggesting most people would have done the same in her position.
For anyone curious about the detailed announcement, here’s the complete statement:
“I am truly sorry to announce that we have to cease our support for PowerWash Simulator VR. We are deeply invested in VR, but the current circumstances prevent us from continuing support at this time.
We reached a critical decision point: maintaining a high-quality VR team on an unprofitable platform while having numerous job vacancies for other projects. We decided to redeploy our VR team to those new roles. Believing in job security for my team, this decision was not taken lightly. I’m aware of the disappointment this may cause, but I assure you, in my shoes, you would choose the same path.”
Despite the VR setback, PowerWash Simulator is thriving in other areas. The standard version of the game regularly receives new content, including exciting additions like the Shrek DLC and an upcoming Wallace & Gromit Pack. However, since the Alice’s Adventures Special Pack in June, Quest support has been missing. Prior to this, the VR version was enriched with updates like the Muckingham Files 1 & 2 and unique collaborations with brands like SpongeBob SquarePants and Back to the Future.
For those who already own PowerWash Simulator VR or are enjoying its current DLCs on the Meta Quest platform, there’s no need to worry about losing access. FuturLab has confirmed that these will remain available and there are no plans to delist them.
