Snap, best known for Snapchat, is making a splash by offering its latest AR Glasses, Spectacles, at a hefty discount for students and educators. What was originally a price tag of $1,200 is now slashed to half for an academic audience.
Released in September 2024, these fifth-generation Spectacles, branded Spectacles ’24, are especially aimed at developers. They’re usually priced at $100 per month if you commit for a year.
Compared to its earlier model from 2021, the new Spectacles have raised the bar with notable enhancements. They offer a wider field-of-view, improved resolution, hand-tracking features, and a completely revamped software stack. Despite these advancements, the steep price has been a barrier, especially for students and teachers eager to dive into AR app development.

To make these innovative glasses more accessible, Snap is now introducing a student discount. Under this plan, the Spectacles come at $49.50 monthly with a minimum 12-month term, followed by the same monthly fee for continuous use thereafter. Alternatively, a one-time payment of $594 covers the first 12 months, and the monthly fee continues afterwards.
The deal is open to anyone with a .edu email or an email from an accredited educational institution. Students and teachers across supported regions, including the US, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, and the Netherlands, can benefit from this offer.
