BioWare, the renowned game developer, now operates with fewer than 100 employees on its team. According to a Bloomberg report, the studio’s workforce has dramatically shrunk to less than half of what it was just two years ago. Back then, BioWare proudly employed over 200 people.
This significant reduction is partly due to recent layoffs as the company shifts its focus toward the eagerly anticipated next installment of the Mass Effect series. Among those affected by these cuts are writer Trick Weekes and producer Jenn Cheverie, both integral to previous projects.
Another element of this transition involved reallocating some BioWare team members to different studios within the Electronic Arts family. Initially, it seemed these transfers were intended to be temporary. However, it has become apparent that they might not be as short-term as expected.
Explaining the rationale behind these changes, BioWare General Manager Gary McKay mentioned, “At this stage of development, we don’t need the entire studio’s support.” He emphasized the talent within BioWare and explained that the team worked hard over recent months to pair many colleagues with fitting roles across other EA teams with available positions.
