A dramatic price slash on the PSVR 2 this holiday season has catapulted its sales on Amazon US far beyond expectations, leaving last year’s numbers trailing in the dust.
During the buzz of Black Friday and the festive season, Sony offered an attractive 42% discount on the Horizon bundle of its PSVR 2 headset, slicing the price in the US from $550 down to a tempting $350.
Unsurprisingly, this enticing offer sent sales of the headset soaring, yet the extent might surprise you. In fact, PSVR 2’s peak sales volume on Amazon US during the 2024 holiday period was nearly five times what it achieved in 2023—a truly staggering leap.
To be fair, the headset didn’t have any major promotions to boost its 2023 holiday numbers. Nevertheless, the math might have suggested that cutting a price by nearly half would double sales. Yet, what we see with PSVR 2 is that the relationship between price cuts and sales is far more dynamic.
In 2024, Sony kicked off the sale ahead of Black Friday and extended it well into the new year. The ongoing nature of the sale hints that Sony might be eager to clear its inventory, perhaps in anticipation of a new SKU, like a fresh bundle or a redesigned, more affordable version. While some speculate that this might be a sign of waning confidence in PSVR 2, possibly foreshadowing its discontinuation, we’re inclined to believe that Sony will keep the headset in its lineup at least through the current console generation. However, they may not be pushing it with as much fervor in the near future.
