Toby Fox, the creative mind behind Deltarune, recently shared insights into the progress of Chapters 3 and 4, both anticipated to launch together in 2025. Fans are buzzing with excitement, eager to dive back into the adventures of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei, especially since it’s been over three years since Chapter 2 hit the shelves.
For those unfamiliar, Deltarune shares similar gameplay roots with Fox’s earlier hit, Undertale, and is planned as a seven-chapter saga. So far, Chapters 1 and 2, released in 2018 and 2021, have been met with acclaim due to their wit, compelling characters, and an outstanding soundtrack—also Fox’s handiwork. Back in December 2024, Fox assured fans that Chapters 3 and 4 were on the brink of completion, though they still had to undergo rigorous bug testing and translations. Even so, the anticipation continues to mount as fans look toward a 2025 release, bolstered by Fox’s latest updates.
In a recent post on BlueSky, Fox revealed that console testing for the upcoming chapters is progressing, albeit at a thorough pace. He mentioned that while bug numbers have lessened, there’s still a hefty amount of content to sift through. Notably, the PlayStation 5 version remains untested, and the team is working hard to transfer save files from the demo to the main game on consoles—something that has only now become feasible. While this might sound like a potential delay, Fox reassured his audience that the chapters are set to land in 2025 without fail.
Last July, Fox announced that Chapter 4 was playable, although final touches were still needed. The upcoming chapters will see a simultaneous release across all platforms—a shift from the staggered release pattern of earlier chapters, which initially appeared on PC before being ported to consoles. Meanwhile, work on Chapter 5 is already underway, with steady progress being made according to Fox’s December 2024 update.
Despite Deltarune’s warm reception, it’s yet to reach the soaring popularity levels of Undertale, which still captivates fans nearly a decade after its debut. The hallmark feature of Undertale, allowing players to resolve conflicts peacefully, continues to be a beloved aspect of Deltarune. Fans are waiting eagerly to see if any other beloved elements from Undertale will find their way into the upcoming chapters of Fox’s current project.
