He’s back indeed. More than three decades after “Terminator 2” graced the big screens, an indie developer has taken a nostalgic journey into the past to bring us “Terminator 2D: No Fate,” a side-scrolling action game inspired by James Cameron’s iconic sequel.
Historically, movie-based games have been hit or miss, and they’ve become a rare breed lately. However, one developer has confidently stepped up to the challenge with “Terminator 2D: No Fate.” This retro side-scroller is designed to capture the essence of the 1991 Arnold Schwarzenegger film in a way that many fans have been waiting for.
According to Bitmap Bureau, the masterminds behind the game, it’s “a love letter to 80s/90s arcade games, and it feels like the T2 game we all deserved growing up.” After watching the trailer, it’s hard to disagree with them.
While we’ve spent countless hours on other Terminator 2 games, like Bethesda’s original entry, those seemed to just skim through the movie’s highlights. Bitmap Bureau, however, is aiming for a full cinematic experience, bringing the entire film to life with a 90s arcade aesthetic powered by modern PCs. The truck chase scene alone is bound to be a standout feature.
The game also teases the possibility of multiple endings, which should excite fans. The original film had two endings, depending on the version you watched. We’re crossing our fingers for an ending where John Connor slips into the vat of molten iron, creating an epic universe-ending twist.
However, we’ll have to hold our breath for a while, as “Terminator 2D: No Fate” is slated for release on September 5th. In the meantime, if you’re itching for more robotic antics, dive into some of the best robot games available, or explore more indie treasures.
