Exciting updates for Dune Awakening have surfaced online, thanks to a detailed rundown from Funcom outlining the game’s post-launch strategy. Alongside this, the official PC specs have been released via the game’s Steam store page.
Chief Creative Officer Joel Byros walked fans through the game’s future, slated to debut on May 20. He announced that, unlike traditional MMOs, Dune Awakening won’t require a subscription fee. Instead, the game will thrive on optional paid DLC packs, which will be released in tandem with free updates.
These free updates are set to include quality of life improvements, fresh features, and new story content, ensuring the game remains lively and engaging. While details on the optional DLCs remain sparse, we know they can be purchased separately or bundled in a season pass, offering various extras in one package.
Byros also shared that some versions of the game will allow players early access starting May 15, giving them a jump start. This isn’t just a perk for eager fans; it’s also a strategic move to manage server load effectively, ensuring a smooth launch day for everyone. After all, nothing dampens an MMO experience more than a rocky start.
Additionally, the Steam post revealed the game’s minimum and recommended PC specs:
Minimum Requirements:
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit (or newer)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-7400, AMD Ryzen 3 1200
- Memory: 16 GB RAM

The post also revealed some enticing PC features, such as NVIDIA’s DLSS 4, making Dune Awakening one of the first fully launched titles to utilize it, AMD’s FSR, Intel’s XeSS 2, and Razer Chroma RGB along with Razer Sensa HD Haptics. If you’re planning to dive into the game on PC, these features could significantly enhance your gaming experience.
What do you think of this business model? Personally, I appreciate having one less subscription to worry about. It reminds me of why I occasionally return to Guild Wars 2—it’s nice to come and go as I please without ongoing fees. So, no complaints from my end. Plus, a gameplay stream on March 24, mentioned at the end of the Steam blog post, promises even more insights soon.
