ILM and Lucasfilm have exciting news for “Star Wars” fans—another immersive game is in the works called “Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset.”
Exclusively arriving on Meta Quest 3 and 3S, this game is set around the timeline of the Han Solo prequel, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” from 2018. Although specifics about the game are still under wraps, you can bet there’s exciting podracing action on the horizon. Players will have the chance to meet podracer Volo Bolus and team up with the legendary Sebulba. This promises a thrilling, engine-roaring mixed reality adventure.
With the term “Playset” in the title, there’s a good chance we’ll see a variety of mixed reality mini-games, though ILM hasn’t confirmed anything beyond their initial tease. ILM is known for slowly revealing details about its XR games, allowing the anticipation to build with carefully timed character and gameplay insights. As of now, they’ve kept the release date and trailer under lock and key.
However, in just a few months, more information should come out at the ‘Star Wars Celebration 2025’ in Tokyo, Japan, scheduled for April 18-20. Here, attendees can be among the first to get hands-on experience with the game at multiple demo stations. Meta will also showcase its previous hits like “Vader Immortal” and “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.”
So, why choose mixed reality for this game? Jose Perez III, Director of Star Wars: Beyond Victory, explains that mixed reality offers incredible immersive possibilities, allowing players to experience a galaxy far, far away right from their homes like never before.
Moreover, it’s worth noting that Meta has likely funded this mixed reality endeavor, as they have with previous Star Wars VR projects from ILM.
