ILM and Lucasfilm have just shown off some exciting new gameplay footage for their upcoming Quest 3 game, Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. It’s a thrilling adventure that combines both virtual and mixed reality experiences.
Partnering up with Meta, the studios offered a sneak peek to folks attending the ‘Star Wars Celebration 2025’ in Tokyo, Japan, running from April 18-20. Along with this hands-on experience, they unveiled a teaser showing off some of the gameplay.
Though still a work in progress, the developers mentioned that Star Wars: Beyond Victory is set around the same era as Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). When it hits Quest 3 and 3S, expect to dive into three unique modes.
Here’s what you can look forward to: a mix of VR and MR in a story mode featuring a podracer named Volo, an arcade mode with mini-podracing on a mixed reality holotable, and a ‘playset’ mode. This last one offers an interactive experience where you can embellish your real-world surroundings with a variety of unlockable virtual action figures and vehicles.
Executive Producer Alyssa Finley had this to say, “We’re calling this a Playset because it isn’t just a game; it’s an entirely new way to experience the Star Wars galaxy and the worlds we create at ILM. This innovative mixed reality experience merges the physical and digital worlds in a groundbreaking way, and we’re thrilled to give our amazing Star Wars community a special first look.”
Planning to be at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo? Starting Friday, you can swing by the ILM and Meta Quest booth in Hall 4, Booth #20-5, to try Star Wars: Beyond Victory for yourself. They’re also showcasing older titles, like Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
As of now, there’s no set release date for the game. However, if the release follows ILM’s trend with past Star Wars VR projects, we can expect information to be revealed slowly before launch. Stay tuned for more updates!
