The gaming world has been buzzing with excitement as Bethesda Game Studios announced that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has already attracted a massive player base of 4 million. This news, shared on Friday through Bluesky, marks a significant milestone.
Bethesda expressed their gratitude, saying, “We are so grateful to the over 4 million of you that have already ventured into Cyrodiil with Oblivion Remastered. Thank you!” Their enthusiasm matches the community’s eagerness.
The much-anticipated remaster was officially unveiled on Tuesday, following a torrent of leaks and rumors over the past couple of years. Instead of making fans wait, the game appeared instantly on digital shelves in a surprise “shadow drop.”
Developed mainly by Virtuos, with Bethesda Game Studios lending a helping hand, Oblivion Remastered showcases stunning visuals crafted in Unreal Engine 5 and features some fresh voice recordings. The original 2006 Gamebryo engine is still present but has been fine-tuned for the remaster.
It’s important to clarify that 4 million players don’t equate to 4 million sales. Xbox’s Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass allow subscribers to dive into first-party games at launch without any extra cost, broadening access significantly.
Nonetheless, hitting the 4 million mark is an impressive achievement. Just recently, another Bethesda title, MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, reached similar numbers after its December 2024 launch on Xbox and PC.
The feedback so far indicates most players are thoroughly enjoying their adventure. However, PC Game Pass users encountered a snag when an update disrupted DLSS upscaling. They’re currently waiting for an official fix.
Available now on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (via Steam and the Xbox app), and PlayStation 5, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is ready for new and returning adventurers. For further insights, check out my guide on the game’s various editions.
