Gaijin Entertainment, the creators behind the popular War Thunder game from 2013, is preparing to launch an exciting new aerial VR combat experience called Aces of Thunder. This anticipated game is scheduled to hit PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets at some point this year.
Initially unveiled in 2023, Aces of Thunder was expected to roll out in the fourth quarter of 2024. It aims to deliver a thrilling lineup of some of the most iconic aircraft from World War history, making their way to both SteamVR and PSVR 2 platforms.
Up until now, Gaijin Entertainment has showcased not only a diverse selection of aircraft from the World War II era but has now expanded the selection to include planes from World War I. This broadened spectrum of aircraft provides players with a vast array of historical aviation to experience.
Among these legendary planes, you’ll find fighters like the Fokker Dr.I, which was eagerly piloted by the infamous Red Baron, and the SPAD S.XIII, which was preferred by René Fonck, one of the Allies’ most celebrated aces. Gaijin promises that these aircraft will be equipped with meticulously detailed cockpits, historically accurate weaponry, and flight models that truly capture the essence of flying these legendary machines.
In addition to these WWI planes, Aces of Thunder will feature a roster of WWII aircraft, including American favorites like the P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra, German warbirds such as the Bf 109 and Fw 190, the formidable Soviet IL-2, the British Spitfire, and the agile Japanese A6M3 Zero.
While the exact release date for Aces of Thunder is still a mystery, the developers have informed Road to VR that they are now eyeing a 2025 launch. In the meantime, eager fans can add the game to their wishlist on Steam and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
Pricing details remain under wraps for now, but rest assured, we’re keeping an ear to the ground for any new information about Aces of Thunder as its release date approaches.
