Schell Games and Innersloth have some exciting news for Among Us fans: they’re bringing flatscreen support to Among Us VR, enabling crossplay between VR enthusiasts and PC gamers.
In a thrilling development, the game’s VR version is getting a new identity as Among Us 3D, which introduces a first-person view for PC players—a first for the franchise. This evolution allows PC users to dive into cross-platform lobbies, mingling seamlessly with VR players, regardless of whether they’re on Quest, SteamVR, PSVR 2, or Pico headsets.
However, it’s important to note that Among Us 3D won’t be compatible with the 2D version of Among Us launched in 2018. The traditional game has remained its own entity since the VR version debuted in November 2022.
Ryan Hall, Project Director at Schell Games, shared his enthusiasm about the changes: “Among Us 3D is opening the door for a wider audience to experience the game from a first-person perspective. By connecting VR and PC players, we’re adding new layers of hilariously sneaky betrayal—now your entire crew can be part of the chaos!”
The rebranding efforts will unfold over the coming months, according to the studios. This transition will include updates across various platforms, including store branding, websites, and in-game visuals.
Among Us 3D isn’t just about perspective changes; it also introduces a new in-game currency called ‘Stardust’. This currency will offer players the chance to purchase cosmetic items, which, as the studios say, will help “expand the game” further.
While there’s no official launch date just yet, fans might not have to wait long. Among Us 3D is set to be highlighted during the Steam Next Fest, providing eager players with an exclusive sneak peek through a demo before its official release.
