Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Set for September Xbox Release, Closed Alpha Launching This Month

Bungie has just unveiled the much-anticipated extraction shooter, Marathon, offering us a juicy first glimpse of its gameplay. Gamers can mark their calendars for its release on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S slated for September 23rd, 2025.

In this upcoming title, you’ll assume the role of a Runner—think of them as cybernetic mercenaries each boasting their own unique set of abilities. Join forces with up to two other players to form a team, and then dive into intense battles against both hostile AI and rival Runner squads. As you navigate through these challenges, you’ll collect a variety of weapons, implants, and gear. The best part? If your team manages to make it out alive, all those hard-earned items are yours to keep for future endeavors.

Whether you’re strategizing in a group of three or feeling bold enough to tackle it solo, your mission is clear: loot and survive. The game pits you against numerous threats, from AI security guards to competing teams, each requiring a plan of action to overcome. For those who thrive on a bit more risk, the single-player option lets you go lone wolf, potentially clearing out entire teams and making off with all the rewards on your own.
