Hello gamers! I’m Juan Martinez, serving as the executive producer at Fatshark and a member of the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide team. I’m thrilled to extend a warm welcome to all the PlayStation players eager to dive into the grim, cooperative adventure we’ve crafted for you.
Today marks a significant milestone as Warhammer 40,000: Darktide opens up to PS5 players who pre-ordered our Imperial Edition. It’s an exciting moment as we gear up for the full release on December 3, when the game will be available to all PS5 enthusiasts.
Initially launched on PC back in November 2022, Darktide has been evolving ever since. We’ve poured our heart and soul into expanding it with nine major additions and over 25 updates packed with content and improvements. Now, as we prepare for the PS5 debut, we’re also rolling out our 10th major free update called Grim Protocols, and trust me, there’s more where that came from in the future!
### Fast-paced Combat, Fatshark Style
Creating a game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe has been a dream of ours for years, and Darktide is the delightful result of turning that dream into reality. This four-player co-op action game places you in the role of a convict enlisted by the Inquisition to reclaim the city of Tertium from the clutches of Chaos. To navigate this treacherous world, you’ll need to master fluid transitions between melee and ranged combat, a hybrid model we’ve fine-tuned to perfection.
### Bringing Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to PS5 and PS5 Pro
In developing Darktide for the PS5, our primary goal was to provide an exceptional gaming experience tailored to the console’s capabilities. We meticulously adapted the game to leverage the PS5 hardware, offering players flexibility between Performance mode (60FPS at 1440p) and Quality mode (30FPS at 4K). Meanwhile, PS5 Pro users can enjoy a consistent 60FPS at 4K, thanks to enhanced PSSR technology.
Our team also embraced the PS5’s adaptive triggers and haptic feedback to embed the DualSense wireless controller naturally into the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide experience. Every weapon offers a distinct tactile feel, from the explosive rounds of an iconic Boltgun to the precise hits of an energy-based Lasgun or the psyker power-infused Force Staff.
Automatic weapons feel incredibly immersive with the DualSense’s responsive haptic effects. As you fire, the vibrating triggers deliver a unique sensation, enhancing the experience with a tactile alert as your ammo starts running low. There’s visceral enjoyment in feeling the Chainsword’s blades slice through demonic foes, a thrill we can’t wait for you to experience firsthand on December 3.
### Unlock Your Potential
To make sure you feel a genuine connection to Tertium, we’ve included an extensive suite of customization options in the character creator. You can delve into tuning your Reject’s appearance, class, backstory, and even voice, allowing for a truly personal adventure.
Each available class comes with a sophisticated talent system, letting you refine your play style across three primary domains and more. The overhauled Itemization system further expands your freedom of choice, making it easy to dive deeply into any of the 40+ weapon families and perfect your skills.
### An Ever-Evolving Game
December 3 is a big day—not only do we launch Darktide on PlayStation, but we also introduce our 10th major update, Grim Protocols, along with a host of fresh content. Let me give you a sneak peek!
We’re launching a new endgame mode called Havoc, where the most experienced operatives can push their limits. Think you’re up for the challenge? First, master the treacherous terrain of Tertium.
Additionally, a new mission will debut, inviting players to navigate the Carnival, an infamous entertainment area rife with both leisure and illicit pursuits.
We’re also expanding our arsenal with three new weapon families—the mighty Two-Handed Force and Power Swords and the formidable Ogryn Heavy Stubber—to help you mow down the Chaos threat.
Keep an eye on our official PS5 news posts to stay current with all the exciting content lined up for 2025. As Warhammer 40,000: Darktide makes its official PS5 debut on December 3, welcome to Tertium, Rejects—brace yourselves to survive the trials ahead. For the Emperor!
