For over 60 million enthusiasts who have been diving into the world of digital Pokémon cards with Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket recently, there’s some exciting news on the horizon. The first expansion is set to roll out on December 17th, offering fresh gameplay experiences.
The expansion, named Mythical Island, is going to introduce more than 80 new cards, including a notable debut of Mew in a non-secret form. This time, Aerodactyl also makes a comeback with a new card, ready to stir up chaos for any player unfortunate enough to face it in battle.
Aerodactyl ex is a standout card in this release, packing a punch with 140 HP and a powerful two-energy attack that delivers 80 damage. However, its real ace is the Pokémon ability called Primeval Law, which prevents opponents from evolving their active Pokémon as long as Aerodactyl ex remains in play. Although it doesn’t impact top-tier cards like Mewtwo ex and Pikachu ex that don’t require evolution, nor does it touch those on the bench, its psychological impact can’t be ignored. This ability could be as daunting as any Aerodactyl card currently available in the mobile game.
Comparatively, the original Aerodactyl card from Pocket’s Genetic Apex expansion is less formidable. It comes with 100 HP and an attack that causes no damage. That attack, Primal Wingbeat, can send an opponent’s Pokémon back to the deck with the flip of a coin, effectively undoing any evolution and energy gained to that point. While this might not secure a win unless the opponent is unlucky and can’t play a benched Pokémon, it can seriously derail someone who’s been gearing up a Charizard ex for a major attack.
Winning isn’t everything, at least not to me. Maybe it’s the fighting game fan in me, but sometimes it’s just as rewarding to disrupt an opponent’s strategy and make their experience challenging. Both Aerodactyl and Aerodactyl ex could make a powerful combo in a deck, not necessarily to clinch victories, but to wreak havoc on opponents. It might even lead some players to step away from the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app for a breather. And really, isn’t that just as satisfying?
