Janos Flösser, who once led the development of the popular Hitman series at IO Interactive, has unveiled his latest venture: Wombo Games. This new studio is currently working on an intriguing strategy roguelike game titled Raiders of Blackveil, aiming to make its debut in Early Access this summer.
Established in 2023, Wombo Games marks another chapter in Flösser’s long and varied career. He dedicated nearly a decade to IO Interactive from 1998 to 2008, before taking on the role of chief creative officer at Square Enix. His journey there lasted until 2016, after which he took the helm as CEO at Crey Games. Beyond his leadership roles in gaming companies, Flösser has also served as a partner, eventually becoming a senior partner, at Promentum Capital.
Reflecting on the goals and progress of his new studio, Flösser shared with GamesBeat, “Our aim was to remain small and agile, pushing the boundaries to see just how far we could go.” He explained that they secured funding and kicked off their journey in July 2023. “We’re nearing our second anniversary… Remarkably, we had a playable version of our game within just the first month and a half, and it captivated our investors right away. They’ve been hooked ever since. This is the first time I’ve seen investors get this enthusiastic about both the team and the concept,” Flösser remarked. This enthusiasm translated into successful funding rounds on three occasions over the past two years. He added, “Right now, our focus is all about crafting the perfect game for the right audience.”
