Recently, the South Korean media outlet MTN News shared that NCSoft, a prominent game publisher, has pulled the plug on a few of its projects known by code names H, J, and Pantera. Although the initial report didn’t directly highlight the Horizon MMO, it suggested that Project H was the unidentified game in question. However, Seo Jeong-geun from MTN News later clarified that Project H has no ties to Horizon.
The details about Project H emerged through a post on Ruliweb, a popular Korean gaming community website. A curious user reached out to the reporter to inquire specifically if Project H was linked to NCSoft’s Horizon MMO. JeongKeun responded plainly, “The ‘H’ that I mentioned has nothing to do with Horizon,” according to the translated correspondence.
The initial MTN story described Project H as being developed by a team composed of previous Entryv staff. Unfortunately, the report didn’t shed light on what type of game it was or the team’s size. It’s noted, though, that some team members decided to leave NCSoft following the cancellation, while others have been reassigned to different endeavors within the company.
Back in 2023, Sony Interactive Entertainment and NCSoft announced a collaboration. Many speculate this partnership involves NCSoft working on the Horizon MMO, although this has not been confirmed. Taekjin Kim, NCSoft’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm about this partnership, stating it marked the beginning of efforts to harness the strengths and technologies of both companies to provide fresh and exciting gaming experiences across different genres and regions.
While the Horizon MMO appears unscathed for now, it’s understandable why some suspected it might be in danger. This suspicion arose following Sony’s recent decision to halt live service projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games. Jeff Grubb, an industry insider, mentioned that Sony is currently “reassessing every single project” across its studios.
