Jim Carrey recently stepped back into the shoes of the mustachioed, bald villain Dr. Robotnik for Sonic 3. Though fresh from this role, he’s already hinted that he’d entertain the thought of coming back for future Sonic films—say, Sonic 4—if the concept appeals to him as fun.
This decision comes after Carrey essentially paused his retirement to shoot Sonic 3. On the red carpet, he joked about what it would take to bring him back into the fold, quipping that he’d need a script written in “gold ink” that he felt was crucial for audiences to see. He candidly added he needed the money after buying “a lot of stuff.”
In an interview with the Japanese YouTube channel Cinema Today, Carrey shared his openness to more Sonic projects. He stated, “I’m open to the idea, and generally, if they present something that sounds fun, I’m in. I’m not bound by anything unless it genuinely captivates me.”
He expressed his affection for the team creating these films and the fans, noting the positive energy and interactions. “There’s really great energy around it, great responses, and fans are super helpful with their input. I feel like we’re all making this movie together.”
Early in the video, Carrey also talks about “power-resting” between projects while making an amusing face. It’s not quite his iconic Grinch face, but it’s a solid attempt, complete with a playful noise—an entertaining 8/10.
At the very least, this is a nice diversion. It spares you from diving deep into Carrey’s Wikipedia page about his past vaccine views and dabbling in NFTs.
On another note, in recent Sonic the Hedgehog 3 news, writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller revealed last year which games they’d consider adapting, should the chance arise.
