After taking a break for more than a year due to health concerns, the illustrious wrestler Kenny Omega finally made his eagerly awaited comeback in the wrestling ring at Wrestle Dynasty on January 5th. This return was made even more special with a brand-new entrance theme featuring two iconic figures from the video game world.
“The day before my return, I have an exciting announcement: I’m unveiling a new entrance at the Tokyo Dome,” Omega revealed on X, formerly known as Twitter. “The track is composed by the brilliant Masayoshi Soken, famed for his work on Final Fantasy 14 & 16, with powerful vocals by Jason Miller and a special contribution from the legendary Nobuo Uematsu. I hope you enjoy it.”
New Japan Pro Wrestling, one of the five co-producers of Wrestle Dynasty, captured footage of Omega’s epic entrance during the event’s live, pay-per-view broadcast and shared it on X.
Amidst the roaring applause of the audience, it’s challenging to decipher all the details, but the essence of Soken’s classic style shines through. With orchestral melodies rising and falling alongside stirring vocals, this piece of music would fit seamlessly during a Final Fantasy 14 raid or a key narrative moment in Final Fantasy 16. While I’m not completely familiar with Nobuo Uematsu’s voice, I’d like to believe it was him energizing Omega over the loudspeakers as the talented wrestler strode confidently down the ramp.
And, spoiler alert: Omega clinched victory in his match. With the power of Final Fantasy music backing him, it seems you just can’t lose.
