If you’ve been eagerly waiting for NetEase Games to introduce a role lock feature in Marvel Rivals, it seems your wish is about to come true, albeit in a surprising twist. Instead of the anticipated Overwatch-style update to the queue and balance system, Marvel Rivals is launching an entirely new game mode. This new feature limits teams to just two selectable heroes, making for some intriguing gameplay. It’s the perfect setup if you’ve ever wanted to create matches where both teams intentionally mirror each other.
Dubbed ‘Clone Rumble,’ the concept is quite straightforward: every team member casts a vote for one hero to take into the game, and then all players must choose between these two heroes. This means you might find yourself in matches where Groot fortifies with walls, Luna Snow unleashes freezing ultimates, or Adam Warlock performs breathtaking revives. Expect chaos, and don’t anticipate it being easy to keep track of everything unfolding in the match.
In this mode, say goodbye to your typical Marvel Rivals team strategies. Both sides can now layer abilities and ultimates in possibly overpowered combinations. The balance may be questionable, but there’s something undeniably thrilling about the idea of bombarding opponents with a half-dozen Scarlet Witch ultimates.
As part of the event, there’s also a board game element, offering up to 320 rewards like nameplates, emotes, sprays, and units. This is a fantastic opportunity to gather some extra currency for future Marvel Rivals skins. Excitingly, Black Widow is receiving a makeover with an old western gunslinger outfit—drawing inspiration from her 1872 comic appearance, where she was romantically linked to Bucky Barnes. It’s a compelling reason to dive into the mayhem.
NetEase Games has announced that Clone Rumble will kick off on Friday, March 7. However, the duration of this event hasn’t been disclosed yet.
