MSI recently addressed the buzz surrounding the alleged recall of NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 due to supposed fire hazards. According to MSI, these rumors are entirely baseless. An unauthorized retailer was reportedly behind the claims.
When we first caught wind of the story, it was a bit of a jolt—a retailer out in the Netherlands supposedly announced that the GeForce RTX 5090 was being recalled for safety issues, particularly a fire risk linked to an MSI SUPRIM model. This quickly caught the media’s attention and seemed to prompt a swift response from MSI as they released a clarifying statement:
“We were unpleasantly surprised to learn on June 3, 2025, from an article posted on the Kitguru website, that a Dutch retailer, UW GAME SPECIALIST, had allegedly informed a customer they couldn’t process their order because five of our GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim SOC units were being recalled due to a fire hazard,” MSI explained.
“We want to clarify that these allegations are entirely unfounded. No recall program is underway, and our products are safe. It’s also important to note that this retailer is not affiliated with MSI; they’re not within our official network.”
The statement also emphasized that MSI might pursue legal action against those spreading these untrue and damaging claims, which negatively impact their brand’s reputation.
For peace of mind, MSI encourages customers to only buy through their authorized sellers, including Megekko, Azerty, Alternate NL, Alternate BE, SHS, CPS, PDC, Bol, Coolblue, and Copaco.
The declaration should put to rest any anxiety over another potential issue with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090. If such a defect involving a fire risk were genuine, it would point to a malfunction with the power connector. As it stands, Team Green already has its hands full with the RTX 50 series, addressing ongoing supply challenges and issues like absent ROPs or sudden black screen occurrences.
For now, RTX 5090 owners can rest easy as MSI has assured there’s no danger of the cards bursting into flames. However, it’s always wise to handle the premium RTX Blackwell GPUs with care when installing them.
