While I thoroughly enjoy Warzone, Call of Duty: Zombies has always been my preferred spin-off in the series. There’s just something incredibly satisfying about teaming up to fend off waves of the undead. In celebration of 115 Day, Treyarch has lifted the veil on a new map for the shooter, along with the return of a beloved feature that makes battling the undead even more thrilling.
In the latest installment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 continues the Zombies saga, a key element of Treyarch’s contributions to the franchise. Given that it’s 115 Day today—January 15, named after the in-game element 115 responsible for resurrecting the dead—we’ve been granted a glimpse into what’s in store for 2025.
The upcoming updates bring some exciting changes to the zombie gameplay, particularly with the introduction of a new map: The Tomb. This map features ancient catacombs that have remained untouched for centuries—until now. You’ll join your fellow adventurers in unearthing the dark secrets hidden within.
While the setting is fresh, it draws inspiration from the fan-favorite Liberty Falls, opting for “tighter play spaces with an emphasis on replayability.” Expect plenty of surprises, including a Wonder Weapon that takes cues from previous iterations in the series—how exciting!
But the real treat for seasoned players is the reintroduction of mid-round pausing in co-op mode. As of Season 2, party leaders will have the capability to pause the game mid-round for a short duration, giving everyone a chance to take a break—whether it’s to stretch, grab a drink, or whatever else. This feature is an excellent resource for enhancing the multiplayer experience.
Last seen in Black Ops: Cold War, mid-round pausing was absent from Vanguard and 2023’s Modern Warfare 3. Although Treyarch didn’t include it at the start, developer notes indicate a strong desire to bring it back for players.
Currently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies is running a double XP event until January 21, 2025. If you’re craving more frights, don’t forget to check out our lists of the best horror games and survival games for additional thrills.
