And that’s the end of an era for avoiding real payments for Nintendo Switch Online.
One of the beloved features of the Switch is winding down shortly after Xenoblade Chronicles X sees its rerelease. Additionally, another perk won’t carry over to the anticipated Switch 2.
Nintendo made it known tonight that the My Nintendo Gold program will be coming to an end starting March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET. This program was a fan favorite because it offered a 1% credit on first-party physical releases within their first year and a 5% return on all eShop purchases. The caveat? This only applies to physical games hitting the market between March 25, 2024, and the program’s conclusion when their yearlong eligibility runs out. So, titles like Endless Ocean: Luminous and Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition make the cut, but unfortunately, Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are out of luck.
On another note, the details on the Switch Online Vouchers’ support page have been updated, confirming these vouchers won’t be valid for Switch 2 games. Subscribers were previously able to buy pairs of vouchers for $99 US or its equivalent, redeemable for first-party titles. However, these vouchers won’t go away entirely—they’ll still be redeemable for future releases on the original Switch, keeping them handy for games like Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
