Two thousand five hundred games. Can someone please put an end to this endless stream of releases?
Last week’s highlights seem to have slipped by a bit unnoticed. As North America added 19 more titles, we saw the unexpected debut of Ironfall Invasion, a game migrating from the 3DS. We’ll share our thoughts soon, crossing fingers it stays put without any security hitches, unlike some past adventures. Equally intriguing was the appearance of the elusive Fantastic Night Dreams Cotton as an Archives release.
With a plus 19, we wrapped up the week at 65 new releases in North America. That pushes us beyond last year’s total, plunging us past the 2,500 game mark. As we slog into the chaotic period fondly known as Hell Months at work, I can’t help but feel restless. For context, the only break I’ve had in seven years involved an eleven-day hospital stay. Onward we march.
This week’s standout is another interesting transition, as Hironobu Sakaguchi, the mind behind Final Fantasy, potentially serves up his last console offering with the arrival of Fantasian Neo Dimension. Having been an Apple Arcade staple, it now finds a new home on consoles, alongside other exciting titles like Fitness Boxing 3, a Nintendo-published delight outside Japan; the classic Roller Coaster Tycoon finally adapted for console controls; and after much anticipation, Diesel Legacy: The Brazen Age bursts onto the scene. Oh, and AntonBlast is also making its debut, though we’re in the dark about its pricing for now.
Keeping things interesting on the smaller scale, the EggConsole line delivers Riglas, a nostalgic side-scrolling RPG reminiscent of old-school Ys III, which seems playable even if you’re not fluent in Japanese. Interestingly, this was initially released by the enigmatic bundle-making masterminds over at Random House in Japan. And, what I believe to be the maiden voyage of a console game based on MasterChef turns up, resembling an exotic culinary concoction akin to the infamous “exotic tartare” Gordon Ramsay might whip up.
