At CES 2025, NVIDIA brought exciting news, announcing the expansion of its cloud gaming service, GeForce NOW, to support Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, and Pico headsets.
Now, before you get too excited, it’s important to note that this doesn’t include VR cloud gaming just yet. So, while fully immersive VR-native games aren’t on the menu, you’ll still be able to enjoy standard games that are already playable on Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and handheld devices.
For those using Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, and Pico headsets, you’ll soon have the opportunity to stream games via GeForce NOW using browsers, thanks to an update, version 2.0.70, coming later this month, according to NVIDIA.
Once this feature becomes available, NVIDIA promises all its renowned tech enhancements, such as ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS. Plus, you’ll get to experience gamepad-compatible titles on a “massive virtual screen,” making for quite an immersive experience, even if it’s not VR-specific.
A big draw of NVIDIA’s service is that it offers limited access for free. However, if you’re looking for more robust, high-quality gaming experiences, they have various daily passes and monthly subscriptions. With a library that boasts over 2,000 titles, there’s plenty to explore.
NVIDIA is not blazing a completely new trail here. Back in 2022, Pluto VR attempted a similar venture with their cloud gaming service on Quest with PlutoSphere. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long, as Meta’s strict policies shuttered it early in 2024.
In contrast, Microsoft managed to secure a foothold, bringing its Xbox Cloud Gaming and Game Pass library to Quest toward the end of 2023. It seems NVIDIA is entering an increasingly competitive and evolving landscape in VR and cloud gaming.
