Path of Exile 2 has been out in early access for just a few days, and already, Grinding Gear Games is diving into player feedback to make some rapid improvements. The top priority? Ensuring that players find the free-to-play experience more rewarding and exciting.
According to the patch notes released on December 9, players have expressed some concerns about the game’s reward system. “Many players feel the game doesn’t offer enough incentives,” the developers noted. They explained the challenge: “We have to tread carefully with adjustments because if we boost loot too much, it becomes tricky to scale back.” They’ve pinpointed key tweaks that they’re confident will enhance the overall player experience.
Among the biggest updates is a significant increase in the rarity bonus for modifiers on rare monsters. This, coupled with a higher likelihood of rare monsters having extra modifiers in the endgame, should noticeably elevate item drops. To further mitigate bad luck with loot, the developers have limited the amount of gold a unique monster can drop to 50%, ensuring some bosses always yield at least one rare item.
However, the game’s initial success didn’t come without its hiccups. When servers opened on December 6, they faced some instability and lengthy login queues, prompting a few realm restarts. Jonathan Rogers, the director at Grinding Gear Games, was forthcoming about these challenges before the game’s release and expressed surprise at the quickly surpassed milestone of 1 million users.
The team at Grinding Gear Games conveyed in a feedback forum that this patch is just the beginning. “There’s a lot more change on the horizon. These are just the quick adjustments,” they wrote. They assured the community of their commitment to ongoing improvements based on player feedback.
