Skate enthusiasts have something to look forward to this year, as the game is set to roll out in early access. Although the full release date remains under wraps, console playtesting is already kicking off! Electronic Arts has started accepting applications for a closed console playtest. If you want to join in and give Skate a spin, you’ll need to register on the official Skate website. However, keep in mind that not everyone will make the cut.
In the past, EA has conducted several playtests, starting even back in 2022. These early glimpses are somewhat rare in the gaming world, but EA is breaking the mold for this highly-anticipated title. According to a representative on the Skate insider FAQ page, “We’re still in the early stages of development and are inviting insiders like you to join us earlier than usual. We’re passionate about Skate and want your feedback to help craft the best experience before we launch worldwide.”
The excitement began brewing officially back in 2020 when Skate was confirmed, and EA further fueled the anticipation in 2021 with the announcement of their new studio, Full Circle, specifically dedicated to creating this game. The legacy of Skate dates back to releases in 2007, 2009, and 2010, all crafted by EA’s Canadian studio, Black Box. However, Black Box has since merged into EA Canada.
Skate’s most significant update came last year, with EA and Full Circle diving into aspects like art, gameplay, story, and character customization through a detailed blog post. A highlight from this update was a live-action, in-game video featuring Tim Robinson from “I Think You Should Leave.” This video was unveiled at the Summer Game Fest, drawing players into the vibrant world of San Vansterdam and introducing the narrative tension with corporate giants M-Corp.
Still, eager fans will have to wait a bit longer for the exact early access release date, as it’s yet to be announced.
