Rumors are swirling that Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, the trio of starters from Generation 6, could be the chosen starters for the upcoming game Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Announced last year with a tantalizing CG trailer, Pokémon Legends: Z-A has sparked excitement and speculation in the Pokémon community. While the trailer confirmed a few details, like its setting in Lumiose City within the Kalos region and the return of Mega Evolutions, much about the game remains under wraps, including its starter Pokémon.
The anticipation grew stronger recently when Chespin and Fennekin appeared in promotional artwork for the Pokémon World Championships 2025. Combined with hints from well-known leakers, these clues suggest that the beloved starters from Pokémon X and Y, which also took place in the Kalos region, might be making a comeback in Legends: Z-A.
Interestingly, the choice to bring back Generation 6 starters could break from the precedent set by Pokémon Legends: Arceus. That game, set in the ancient Sinnoh region, did not feature its native starters. Many fans thought Pokémon Legends: Z-A might follow a similar path, mixing starters from various generations. However, the evidence seems to point in a different direction.
Even if Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie do return, they might not be the same as before. There are rumors that these starters could have new final evolutions or might be updated with fresh Mega Evolutions. As of now, all fans can do is wait and conjecture about what might be in store.
Exciting times are ahead, with a Pokémon Presents event scheduled for Thursday, February 27, coinciding with Pokémon Day celebrations. Although it’s not officially confirmed, there’s a buzz that this event might reveal more about Pokémon Legends: Z-A and possibly unveil the starter Pokémon. We’ll all have to tune in at 9 a.m. ET to find out what surprises are in store.
