As the PlayStation 5 takes the spotlight as the main console for PlayStation enthusiasts, we’re seeing a gradual phase-out of support for the trusty PS4. One popular MMORPG, in particular, is wrapping up its time on the older system. However, there’s a silver lining for players: a free upgrade to the latest console version is available.
### Farewell to Black Desert Online on PS4
The creators at Pearl Abyss have announced their intention to discontinue the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Black Desert Online. But don’t worry just yet, you still have a few months to roam the world before this switch. June 26 marks the day when the game will officially move to current-gen consoles after maintenance. And here’s the good news: players can seamlessly upgrade to the improved version at no cost, with all their game data and purchases safely transferred.
In a reassuring message, Black Desert Console Live Service Manager Brian Choi explained the transition from PS4 to PS5, saying, “Your game data is in safe hands. Your account and all your Black Desert entitlements will be right there waiting when you decide to move to the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series versions. We know this might be a letdown for some fans, but we’re committed to enhancing the adventuring experience.”
Choi further elaborated, “Even though we’ve been diligently optimizing and updating content for older consoles, reaching a point where hardware limits restrict our ability to roll out new content effectively, can’t be ignored. After weighing all options, our choice to target the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions is the best one, allowing us to deliver a more robust and improved service.”
When Black Desert Online first hit U.S. shores in 2016, reactions were mixed. On Metacritic, it snagged an average score of 73 based on 35 critic reviews. It found its home on the PS4 and Xbox One three years later in 2019.
