I’m working on a review for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, so I reached out to Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, co-founder of Polygon Treehouse, to dive into the game. Let’s uncover what it’s all about!
PS4Blog: Good morning! It’s great to have you back with us. How’s everything been on your end?
Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou: Thanks for having me! It’s been a whirlwind few years since our last game, Röki, came out. Diving into Mythwrecked has been a unique experience as we’ve been exploring mythology and folklore from a fresh angle. This time, we’re tapping into the world of the Greek gods as if they lived among us today!
PS4B: Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is set to hit the Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you shed some light on this new adventure?
We like to think of Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island as an "explore-o-story" game. Players step into the shoes of Alex, a backpacker in desperate need of a break, whose tranquil holiday is turned upside down by a mysterious storm, leaving them stranded on a forgotten island. Your journey will involve forming bonds with Greek gods, piecing together their lost memories, and finding a way back home.
PS4B: When did you first start working on this project? How much has it evolved from your initial concept to the finished game we’ll soon get to play?
We began formulating the idea roughly three years ago. The core elements, like radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks, have remained consistent throughout development. However, the ‘Story Sandbox,’ which involves interacting with the gods’ narratives, has undergone quite a few changes. I’m thrilled with where we’ve ended up, as it really immerses players in the unfolding story.
PS4B: Röki had a physical release, so I’m curious if there’s any chance Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island will as well.
I’m a huge supporter of physical releases and was delighted when we could do that for Röki. Currently, we don’t have any news regarding a physical release for Mythwrecked, but it’s definitely something I’m hoping for in the future.
PS4B: We’re wrapping up now. Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Just a big thank you for tuning in! If you’re a fan of cozy games, mythology, adventure, or mystery, I highly encourage you to check out Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We believe it will offer a memorable indie gaming experience!
