In exciting news for fans of Ancient Dungeon VR, the popular rogue-lite dungeon crawler has just added multiplayer co-op functionality to its PSVR 2 version. Originally debuting in 2021 on Steam Early Access and the App Lab for the now-retired Quest, Ancient Dungeon was initially crafted as a solo adventure. Players could immerse themselves in over 20 hours of exploring winding, treacherous dungeons while engaging in physics-driven battles with blocky wizards, skeletons, and other familiar foes from the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
Though co-op for up to four players was introduced for Quest and SteamVR back in mid-2024, PSVR 2 enthusiasts were left waiting. The game landed on PSVR 2 in December 2023 but without the co-op feature. Now, thanks to developer Eric Thullen, PSVR 2 players can finally dive into the chaos with friends, battling through the game’s procedurally-generated dungeons, testing their mettle against traps and enemies in thrilling multiplayer action.
During a Reddit Q&A session, Thullen addressed some burning questions, one being cross-play functionality. He mentioned that, as of now, cross-play isn’t available across any platforms. However, there’s good news on the horizon—cross-play with Quest and PC VR is slated for a future update.
Ancient Dungeon VR stands as one of the great indie triumphs in the VR world. Its journey began with a well-supported Kickstarter campaign in 2020, followed by the release of a praised beta version that earned more than 1,000 reviews and an impressive 4.8 out of 5 stars. Fast forward nearly five years, and the game continues to evolve with frequent updates. Players can expect fresh content like new weapons, cosmetics, insight upgrades, dungeon floors, and relics. This dedication from Thullen’s team is all in preparation for the anticipated 1.0 release, which they hint in a recent Steam update is still on the distant horizon.
If you’re interested in diving into the ever-expanding world of Ancient Dungeon VR, you can find it available for $20 on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
