Studio Fizbin, the creative minds behind Reignbreaker, is sadly closing its doors later this month. This unexpected announcement was shared on their website and caught the eye of Game Developer, signaling the studio’s closure after releasing Reignbreaker on March 18th. Alexander Pieper, Studio Fizbin’s founder and CEO, attributed this tough decision to Thunderful’s recent move to significantly scale back on internal development.
Pieper elaborated on the situation, stating, “The games industry is facing challenging times right now, and like many other outstanding studios, we’ve felt the impact.” In a notable shift last November, their parent company, Thunderful, decided to reduce internal development drastically. As relayed by Thunderful’s CEO, Martin, in their latest quarterly report, Studio Fizbin felt those effects deeply.
Since then, they have been actively evaluating potential projects to undertake after wrapping up Reignbreaker, but unfortunately, none of these prospects have materialized. Consequently, they had to make the difficult choice to close the studio.
Pieper expressed heartfelt gratitude towards everyone involved: “To every one of our fans, thank you for your purchases, your art, your feedback, your reviews, your passion, and your unwavering support.” He also extended thanks to their business partners, including Medienboard, MfG, Creative Europe, and federal funding partners for their crucial support.
In closing, Pieper paid a special tribute to the team: “Our greatest thanks go to the team members who have stayed with us until the end and to those who have ventured onto new paths. Fizbin and its games have been shaped by your incredible talents, and together, you’ve turned game development into the most inspiring of magical acts.”
