It seems Warner Bros has decided to pull the plug on an expansion for Hogwarts Legacy. According to a Bloomberg report, this expansion was in the works to debut alongside a Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter-themed action RPG, which promised new storylines and content.
Sources indicate that Warner Bros shelved the expansion because there wasn’t enough content to justify the price tag they had in mind. The original developers, Avalanche Software, were on board to craft this addition, working alongside Rocksteady. Interestingly, Avalanche might be juggling this with a sequel for the Harry Potter game as well.
Over at Rocksteady, they’ve recently experienced layoffs following their announcement to cease support for 2024’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The studio is navigating tricky waters as Warner Bros admitted last year that their gaming division wasn’t performing up to expectations. To put things in perspective, they wrote off a staggering $200 million just for the Suicide Squad game’s development.
Further shaking things up, Warner Bros has closed three studios, including Monolith, and their long-time leader, David Haddad, has also stepped down. Clearly, it’s been a tumultuous time for the company as they try to recalibrate their gaming strategy.
