Agent Fall from eastasiasoft and Pufferfish Digital takes us back in time with its retro-inspired, side-scrolling 2D shooter for the PlayStation 5. Want to get the inside scoop on this game? You’ve come to the right place!
The game sets you up with a gripping storyline: unusual activities have been reported at a covert military facility buried deep in the desert, and it’s your job to delve into the mystery before things spiral out of control. You’re given the choice to play as one of four distinct agents, each armed with a license to kill and tasked with breaching the base.
You’ll find that the game offers three different difficulty levels: Recruit, Veteran, and Insane. If you choose Recruit, you’ll find it’s a bit of a cakewalk—your health points are much higher and enemies go down more easily. Veteran mode gives you the standard, balanced gameplay experience where challenges are enough to keep things interesting, but not overwhelming. Now, if you’re feeling brave—or a tad crazy—Insane mode really lives up to its name. Your health drops dramatically, enemies are tougher, and there’s permadeath. Perish, and it’s game over!
Starting out with your mission, you’ll select among agents Johnson, Smith, Bianchi, or Diaz. A quick tutorial will help you grasp the basics: maneuver your agent with either the left analog stick or the D-Pad, make them jump using the X button, and fire using the Square button. Toss grenades by tapping Circle, but remember to aim precisely; those explosives travel in an arc, and misjudging can lead to an explosive demise.
Your primary weapon offers unlimited ammunition, a comforting touch. However, the extra weapons you acquire are limited but pack a serious punch. Choose wisely and make the most of every shot. Throughout the game, you’ll collect gear like shotguns, machine guns, flamethrowers, bazookas, plasma guns, and mini guns. Keep an eye out for extra grenades and bulletproof vests, the latter serving as a second health bar to buffer enemy onslaughts.
And let’s not forget the trophies! Agent Fall comes with a full trophy list culminating in a coveted Platinum trophy. As a Cross-Buy release, owning this game on a PlayStation 5 allows you to download both the PS4 and PS5 versions. Each version provides its own trophy list, rewarding you with another Platinum. Scour the list of 2 Bronze, 16 Silver, and 6 Gold trophies, and aim for that ultimate prize.
Agent Fall is an engaging dive into a classic side-scrolling action experience on Sony consoles. With potential chaos brewing in that desert military base, it’s up to you to put on your detective hat, pick a double agent, and face the action head-on. Plus, with its appealing price of $5.99, it’s a tempting choice for fans of retro-style shooters.
