If you love casual puzzle games where you get to help adorable characters, then HoneyLand might just be the game for you. Created by Remix Games and Afil Games, this game invites you to assist Mr. Fluff, a lovable bear, on his delightful journey across 30 unique levels to find pots of honey. Let’s dive deeper into our review and see what HoneyLand has to offer!
Imagine HoneyLand—a vibrant island paradise where the gush of delicious honey fulfills the desires of its biggest fans. Enter Mr. Fluff, a charming bear with a seemingly insatiable appetite for honey, and of course, a quest to reach the notorious honey volcano. Your mission? Guide Mr. Fluff to guzzle all the honey he can find and navigate him toward this sweet destination.
In HoneyLand, you’ll find the gameplay refreshingly simple. Every level supplies you with a deck of move cards, and your job is to strategically pick the right ones to help Mr. Fluff reach his pot of honey. And, no worries if you goof up—you can simply restart and try again. One feature I particularly liked is the preview option, showing you exactly where Mr. Fluff will land before you commit to a move.
The game’s difficulty gradually builds, inviting you first to master the basics. Levels 1 through 6 are introductory, enabling players to grasp the mechanics easily. Starting with level 7, the game ups the stakes, requiring a blend of strategic foresight and a bit of trial and error. By the time you hit level 10, ledges become part of the landscape, adding a fun twist. Moving forward to level 20, you’ll notice move cards scattered around, and collecting these is crucial to clear the level, bringing an added layer of tactical gameplay.
When it comes to its visuals, Mr. Fluff himself is a bit of an enigma. While there’s nothing that stands out as particularly groundbreaking about his design—he seems like a stock model from a developer’s toolkit—his quirky expression might catch your eye. Despite these character design quirks, the level maps are well executed, providing ease of exploration. I did face some challenges, specifically with camera angles during the later levels involving jumps, which became mildly frustrating.
As for gamers who are trophy hunters, HoneyLand is your golden ticket to snagging a Platinum without breaking a sweat. The game dispenses 6 Bronze, 8 Silver, and 8 Gold trophies for everything from completing the first ten levels to restarting levels and gathering move cards post-level 20. If you need guidance, the HoneyLand Trophy Guide is your best friend, helping you snatch a Platinum in roughly 30 minutes.
All in all, HoneyLand offers an enjoyable puzzle experience with cleverly designed levels. The puzzles are well-crafted, although the game’s presentation leaves a bit to be desired—particularly concerning Mr. Fluff’s slightly awkward appearance. Nevertheless, it’s easy to recommend for those looking for a mentally stimulating puzzle game or wanting to add a new Platinum trophy to their collection. Plus, HoneyLand is a Cross-Buy title, so for just $4.99, you can download it for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 without any extra charge.
