Rec Room has become a vibrant hub for first-party adventures, inviting both friends and strangers to embark on exciting escapades. The latest addition to the social VR platform, ‘Run the Block,’ is now making waves, clearly inspired by the iconic Dreamcast game, Jet Set Radio, from the year 2000.
This exciting multiplayer mini-game, ‘Run the Block,’ was released on December 11th and has already captivated over a million players. Much like Jet Set Radio, this free mini-game lets you compete against up to nine other players, challenging you to race and parkour through a sprawling urban landscape with style and creativity.
Although you won’t have the retro game’s signature aggressive rollerblades, you’ll be leaping, sprinting, and grinding along massive rails that snake through the map. Plus, you get the chance to add your unique flair to the graffiti-filled cityscape.
Over the past year, Rec Room hasn’t introduced many first-party games, with ‘My Little Monster,’ a pet farming simulator, being its most notable release. But the platform has been busy bringing branded content, such as avatar packs from ‘Monster High’ and Bungie’s popular shooter, Destiny. This year, Rec Room has focused on enhancing its creator suite, empowering users to build their own intricate worlds and sell assets within the game’s creator economy. They’ve also introduced full-body avatars, giving players even more ways to personalize their experience.
In November, Rec Room expanded its reach by launching on the Nintendo Switch, further bolstering its lineup of supported devices, which already includes PC VR, every Quest model, the original PSVR, iOS, Android, Pico, Xbox, and PlayStation. This growth ensures that players across a multitude of platforms can dive into the fun and creative adventures that Rec Room offers.
