Sony recently revealed its annual list of the most downloaded games across its PlayStation platforms for 2024. While many might have anticipated some shake-ups compared to PSVR 2’s inaugural year, the results don’t leave much room for surprises.
Entering its second year, PSVR 2 has witnessed mixed reviews. Some critics have argued that the PS5-connected VR headset lacked support from developers and exclusive titles since its launch in February 2023, a contrast to the original PSVR. However, true fans are sticking up for their favorite headset.
On the technical front, PSVR 2 stands tall, giving developers the tools to deliver stunning visuals and high render resolutions, surpassing even Meta’s formidable Quest 3. Additionally, Sony introduced a wired adapter in June, expanding opportunities for playing PC VR titles. Even so, if you take a glance at the actual downloads from the PlayStation Store, the numbers tell their own story.

The evergreen favorite, Beat Saber (2018), dominated the download charts in both North America and Europe. Rather than seeing this as a limitation of the platform, its top placement is testament to its status as a must-have game for newcomers.
2024 saw a few fresh entries on the leaderboard. Metro Awakening by Vertigo Games, despite its late November arrival, quickly climbed the ranks. Meanwhile, Urban Wolf Games’ Legendary Tales finally hit a full release in February after a prolonged Early Access on Steam.
It’s worth noting that while Arizona Sunshine 2 (2023) debuted with great promise in December 2023, it had only a brief period to gain traction before the year ended.
