Team Cherry, the Australian developer, recently stepped up to reassure fans that the much-anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight, Silksong, is indeed still on its way.
Matthew Griffin, the studio’s marketing and publishing specialist, felt the need to respond to a growing wave of skepticism online. Replying to a tweet questioning the project’s status, Griffin confirmed that Silksong is “real, progressing, and will be released.”
Announced back in 2019, Silksong was initially intended to be DLC for Hollow Knight but eventually expanded into a standalone game. Since then, details have been sparse. In fact, beyond a 2022 trailer showcased at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase hinting at a Game Pass release by June 2023, there’s been an unsettling silence.
This lack of updates has sparked some strange theories among Silksong fans. At one point, William Pellen, co-director at Team Cherry, changed his Twitter profile picture to an image of a cake. While this might seem innocent enough, a reverse image search revealed that the photo was supposedly uploaded on April 2nd, 2024, which fueled wild speculations.
Some fans leaped to the conclusion that this was a hint about Silksong being featured at a Nintendo Switch 2 event, allegedly planned for April 2nd, 2025. However, a YouTuber dedicated to Silksong has called out these theories, branding them as mere speculation and wishful thinking.
As bizarre as these tales may be, I must admit I sympathize with the eager community. As someone who’s also eagerly awaiting Silksong, I find myself clinging to any glimmer of hope or rumor, no matter how far-fetched. Hey, it keeps the dream alive, right?
And at least we have that over the Star Citizen community, which has been funded to the tune of $778 million. Yeah, let’s take a moment to chuckle at that.
