Game Science, the team behind “Black Myth: Wukong,” has once again addressed the ongoing discussions about the game’s absence on Xbox, attributing it to optimization challenges with the Xbox Series S, rather than any exclusive deal with PlayStation. Despite persistent rumors suggesting a secret exclusivity agreement between Sony and the developers, these claims have lacked substance and clarity from the start, further fueled by ambiguous remarks from Microsoft.
Feng Ji, the director of “Black Myth: Wukong,” recently shared his thoughts on the issue on Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform. While celebrating the game’s triumph as Game of the Year 2024 at the Steam Awards, he expressed regret over the missing Xbox version.
Reflecting on the technical hurdles, Feng Ji mentioned the challenges of working within the Xbox Series S’s 10GB shared memory. He implied that the development team would need several years of optimization experience to overcome these obstacles.
In a twist, Microsoft addressed the situation, firmly stating that they weren’t aware of any optimization difficulties specific to the Series S. “We’d rather not discuss our partners’ agreements with other platform holders,” a spokesperson told Forbes. “However, we can confirm that the game’s delay isn’t due to any reported Xbox platform limitations.”
With these clarifications in mind, hopefully, this brings the speculation to an end once and for all.
